Abstract

Water scarcity traditionally reached the Brazilian Northeastern region in recent years (2014-2015) a chronic water crisis started to hit the Southeast; with a population unaccustomed to managements of conservation and use of water and heavy dependence on hydroelectric sources. Supported by a literature review and studies by research institutes that have been published in events or articles, this article aims to give an overview of the main environmental impacts that affect water resources in the Southeast. This information may provide parameters to studies consistent with reality and the reservoirs conservation needs for the use of multiple uses and especially for the generation of electricity and public water supply.
