Abstract

Industrialization in the city of São Paulo at the end of the 19th century altered the use and occupation of soil, inserting several manufacturing processes, many of which were pollutants. Subsequently, with the industrial deconcentration, abandoned spaces were formed, whose reuse is made difficult by environmental contamination, characterizing brownfields. The present study aimed to analyze the refunctionalization of a former contaminated industrial area that is now residential, located in the neighborhood of Santo Amaro, in São Paulo, São Paulo. The refunctionalization of this area can contribute to reduce urban sprawl, minimize risks to the environment and to human beings, and value the region.
