This study aimed to make a preliminary assessment of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in the area of influence of the Petrochemical Capuava, Maua, SP. Air samples were collected at two points: P1 (Federal University of ABC, Santo André, SP) and P2 (State School Professor Sada Umeizawa, Maua, SP). These collections were made on TENAX TA tubes, suitable for this purpose, and analyzed in the laboratory by gas chromatography method FID. The measurements were performed after the passage of a cold front, representing a clean atmosphere without the presence of aged feathers. Were measured low concentrations of VOC, with the highest concentrations were in P1 (1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, BTEX, dodecane and trans- 2-hexene) and P2 (1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, BTEX, n- dodecane, n-hexane). Regarding BTEX in P1 and P2 the highest concentrations were measured for toluene and m, p-xylenes. Analyses of the reasons B / T and X / E showed that the sources of emissions in both measurement points were predominantly serve; which is in accordance with the meteorological data of wind speed and direction and the photochemical standpoint the feathers were young, with sources close to local measures, as expected.
