Abstract

(The purpose of this paper is to extend the discussions and reflections on the relationship between the themes of Health and Physical Education, presenting the understanding of physical education teachers on these topics and Health Promotion, as well as possible relationships among them. We used open interviews to guide the dialogues, and found that the meanings attributed to the concepts of Physical Education diverged among interviewees, and that teachers perceive a linear relationship between the possibilities of Physical Education and Health Promotion. We conclude that there is an urgent need for in-depth debates over how these relationships are being treated today and on how teachers access up-to-date scientific literature on the subject, to foster consistent discussions on the issues of Health in Physical Education.
